Meet the state animal of the Andamans. Du gong. It is a marine mammal, also known as Sea Cow and is Herbivorous.

Du gongs are related to manatees and are similar in appearance and behavior though the Du gong's tail is fluked like a whale's. Both are related to elephant, although the giant land animal is not at all similar in appearance or behavior. Du gongs graze on underwater grasses. These mammals can stay underwater for six minutes before having to surface. Du gongs spend much of their time alone or in pairs. It is an unfortunate fact that Du gong is an endangered marine mammal. Project Awesome Andamans appeals to you all to join hands in protecting this harmless, cool mascot of the Emerald Islands.
